Doris is Interactive Manager with TruthMedia Internet Group. She overseas chat ministry and online mentoring of those contacted through the ministry’s portfolio of outreach sites.

Early on in my Christian growth, God gave me a desire to make my life count for eternity. It wasn’t because I had huge dreams, or an amazing gift set, but more just that I had a heart to reach others with the good news of the gospel. What amazes me is that God has done just that and far more than I could have ever asked or imagined. Today I am a middle-aged woman who reaches the world from the convenience and comfort of her home computer in a small city in Canada (Abbotsford, British Columbia). I didn't even know how to turn on a computer until after I turned 40! And even now, I am ‘computer-challenged’ and am not the least bit technical! Sad, but very true! I don’t understand anything about computers except I know how to make them do what I want them too. And that’s the best part – God still uses me!

My first involvement was very simple, to just lead a chat on a topic that I was familiar with in the ministry. I could do that since my training was to share my faith in my sphere of influence, and this just translated that sphere to the Internet. As I led that first chat, and then more and more over the months, and years to come, I realized that God had called me, trained me, and now given me an influence that stretched worldwide. There were no borders left, so the only limiting factor was my availability. With that in mind, I knew that this was where He wanted me to minister.

I work with a large Internet Ministry group called TruthMedia Internet Group, a ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, Canada. We have a family of websites that are either evangelistic, discipleship, or training websites, and service many different ministries in partnership with us. Our purpose statement is “Strategically using the Internet to build communities of evangelism and discipleship”.

Training and encouraging

As the Interactive Manager, I oversee all the components of the chat ministry and the online mentoring ministry. This includes overseeing the management of the chat ministry for TruthMedia Internet Group, training for the multi-chatroom ministry, and training of the moderators and monitors. I work closely with hosts and co-hosts, to encourage, train, and mentor them, as well as our mentoring coordinator, helping with questions relating to mentor applications, and submissions.

One of the neatest examples that I have seen in our chat ministry is that of a lady I’ll call ‘Tee’. She came to our chat room, without any spiritual background, confused and seeking some sort of affirmation. After a series of chat conversations I was able to share Christ with her, and actually lead her to Christ right there in the chat room. Since then, I was able to disciple her, and I have seen incredible growth in her life. She has personally led five family members to the Lord, and a host of others in her life. God has redeemed the broken pieces of her life, and used her to shine His glory into her corner of the world. Today she is one of our regular chatters, sharing her faith with new people, and encouraging others by her knowledge of the Word and in prayer. I feel blessed to be able to see her minister in the same environment where she came to Christ.
