Incredible digital toolbox for churches
An exciting new resource provides valuable help for churches wanting to use the Web and social media: Internet Toolbox for Churches.
“The Internet and social media present today’s church with unprecedented opportunities to effectively connect with and reach people,” says Dave Hakes. He founded ITC after several years as president of the congregation at his active, Christ-centered and outreach-driven Boston church.
He saw first-hand how his church, and many others like it, struggled with putting internet technology to positive use. Their endless struggles with limited volunteer and staff resources, already-busy pastors, finances and sparse technical know-how presented seemingly insurmountable obstacles to using technology to reach people.
Game-changing discoveries
At the same time, Dave was using blogging, easily set-up WordPress websites and social media in other projects. He realized that it would be game-changing to help churches discover how approachable, inexpensive and effective such technologies truly are.
“Churches willing to try using these tools will find themselves able to reach more people, including those they struggle to reach to day: the younger generations that are already so very comfortable with this technology,” Dave says.
Now living outside Chicago (but still working with his church in Boston), Dave writes and produces podcasts to help churches make this discovery for themselves, and also works with client churches and ministries and offers training opportunities to still more.
Dave sees outsider-friendliness as an essential part of church digital ministry. Insider material produced only for Christians is very unlikely to trickle down to outsiders. His advice is understandable, practical and achievable.
