Internet usage worldwide and the opportunity for missions
Internet World Stats now provide a page with all the world’s countries, along with population, internet users, and internet penetration.
Here are their Top 10 languages used online. Check their links and discussion of methodology at the foot of that page.
Few analysts seem to calculate language use after the top ten. The only source I know of is Wikipedia’s Top 34 languages listing.
Satellite company O3b Networks has linked up with Google and other investors to bring cheaper, high-speed wireless Internet access to areas unlikely to see investments in fiber infrastructure.
O3b stands for “other 3 billion”, a reference to the world’s population that still can’t access the Internet. O3b, which is based in UK’s Channel Islands, said construction is under way on 16 satellites that will drop the cost for ISPs and operators to provide Internet access over 3G (third-generation) and WiMax networks.

Mission opportunities
John Edmiston writes, “I have just put together a new article on Cybermissions strategy. It looks at the most effective way we can deploy Internet evangelism and Cybermissions to facilitate the Global Harvest. This article answers two questions:
a) where is the harvest plentiful, the laborers few and internet
connectivity adequate for internet evangelism to take place?
b) what are the best strategies we can employ to reach the harvest

I have a vision:
To make available through the net, powerful gospel centered preaching, discipleship and prayer in the heart language of those countries where Christianity is persecuted.
Method:
Similar to lifechurch.tv a service is made available on a website, including similar community style interactive tools (scripture, prayer rooms etc..) A viral, grassroots approach is employed to promote the ministry. The ministry is staffed by heart language ministers.
I welcome your thoughts.

Great info. Thanks for the update. We are helping to pioneer resources in Hindi for North India. Check out http://www.stuti.org which means Praise in Hindi. We have created a library of the 500 most common Hindi Lyrics in HIndi and English scripts, as well as tutorials teaching how to play many of these songs.
Another category that fits the need of the ever growing base of online users in the world is the need to learn English. The His Hands Reader project is producing online reading primers using Bible text. The primers are based on Wycliffe Associate’s Easy English Bible. The primers are beginning to be distributed via YouTube and TV DVDs to reach those who don’t have access to a computer, yet. The technology is designed to help the hearing and the deaf in developing countries to learn to read. If you would you like to volunteer to add your native language to the His Hands Reader please stop by… http://www.GodandDeaf.org/hhr
[...] The Church has also found a great friend in the Internet. Most religious people initially opposed and condemned the Internet as a very dangerous innovation. While some religious people still frown upon the Internet, others have understood its great value as a way to spread their beliefs and ideas. Here is another example of a good approach of Internet and the Church. [...]
