It’s good to see how many have blogged, Facebooked or tweeted about internet evangelism in the run-up to Internet Evangelism Day. Thanks everyone. For example…

Paul at OurChurch.com is running a series of 20 daily blog posts in the run-up to 25 April.

And Lauren carried two guest posts at ChurchTechToday.

Twitter hashtag

After some discussions, a group of web evangelism advocates felt that a Twitter hashtag would be useful to identify tweets relating to any aspect of digital evangelism. That includes websites, social networking, Facebook, Twitter, mobile phones, video clips – anything digital. The tag is

#ieway

standing for Internet Evangelism Way(s of using digital media)

We chose it because

  • it’s short – too many characters uses up space that could be used for a meaningful posting description
  • it does not apply specifically to Internet Evangelism Day, yet echoes it
  • is memorable

People are already using it widely – view syndicated tweets at www.twubs.com/ieway. See Mashable for more information on hashtags.

Speeding up WordPress

If you have a blog or website running on WordPress, you’ll be interested in ways of speeding it up. If WP has a fault, it is the slight page loading delay as it scoops up content from various database locations. But there are ways to speed it up dramatically using changes to the htaccess file. (This is a simple text file named .htaccess (ie. nothing before the file extension) and placed in the root directory of the blog. If your blog is located at www.yoursite.com/blog then the htaccess file goes in the directory ‘blog’, not the root for yoursite.com itself.

Here are the various sections of code to copy into your .htaccess file. It works! This baby really flies along now.
