If you’ve read the book, seen the musical or movie, you may like to listen to a classic audio dramatization of the Les Miserables book by the BBC, with Joss Ackland playing John Valjean.

It is currently being repeated on BBC Radio 4 Extra, available worldwide on the Web. As with most archived radio on the BBC, it only remains available for a very limited period. So if you want to listen, you’ll need to start now!

The first five 15-minute episodes can no longer be listened to separately, but are available as a 75-min omnibus combined edition here, but it will only be available until partway through 3 Feb! (Note that BBC’s automatic archiving means that the last minute of the previous program plays at the beginning of each episode.)

Episodes beyond 5 can be listened to here, but not all of them yet, as some have not yet been re-broadcast live. So you’ll have to wait a bit to catch the later ones! And then the earlier ones will be integrated into further omnibus editions, though these too will be only available for a limited period.

Confused? Missed them? BBC also offers the series on CD from Amazon UK. It may not be widely available internationally.

An audio dramatization by Focus on the Family, starring Brian Blessed, is also available on CD
